Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and yes, a power breakfast literally can make or break the healthy lifestyle you are trying to maintain. What you eat for breakfast can be the key indicator of how well you’ll be able to adhere to your eating plan for the rest of the day. If you consume a breakfast that boosts your energy, keeps you full and satisfies you until lunch time, you’ll definitely be able to curb cravings, stop snacking impulsively, and keep the extra pounds off. But if you are like us, we like to start our mornings relaxed, and not anxiously preparing and cooking food, counting calories or macros, and whipping up some complicated meal. Here’s our treat for you, we have rounded up two of our favorite breakfast smoothie recipes that are quick and delicious.
3⁄4 cup water
2 brewed green tea bags or 2 scoops matcha green tea powder
2 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen
3 ice cubes
12 ounces nonfat vanilla yogurt
2 tablespoons almonds, whole dry-roasted, unsalted (about 20)
2 tablespoons flax seeds, ground
Bring water to a boil and pour over tea bags.
Steep 4 minutes.
Squeeze and remove tea bags and discard.
Chill tea overnight.
If using matcha, prepare as directed.
If using fresh blueberries, place in freezer overnight.
Place tea, blueberries, ice, yogurt, almonds, and flaxseed in blender.
Process until smooth.
Green tea- Especially the Matcha variety, is the healthiest drink, it boosts metabolism, fights certain diseases and cancers, and an excellent source of antioxidants for overall wellness.
Blueberries- Very rich in fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and phytonutrients. It lowers total cholesterol in the blood, which lowers the risk of heart problems.
Almonds- These nuts keeps you full longer, thus, aids in weight loss. They are also full of healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E. The health benefits of almonds include lower blood sugar levels, reduced blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels.Flax seeds- Very good for digestive health and they do not cause weight gain. Flax seeds are high in fiber, low in cholesterol, gluten free, and low in carbs.
4 leaves kale, stems removed
1 handful loose spinach
1 cup coconut water
4-5 fresh mint leaves
Place all ingredients in a high speed blender.
Blend until green and smooth.
Drink right away.
Avocado – Full of brain-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, inflammation reducing antioxidants, and blood pressure reducing potassium (30% more than a banana!).
Kale – You’ll get the maximum nutrition of Kale when uncooked. High in digestive-aiding fiber, liver boosting iron, and vision boosting Vitamin A.
Apple – are rich in important antioxidants, flavonoids, and dietary fiber. The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Adds a bit of sweetness plus endurance boosting antioxidants, and immune helping Vitamin C.
Spinach – One of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, containing cancer fighting antioxidants, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and 40% of your magnesium requirement daily.
Coconut Water – Nature’s Gatorade, full of dietary fiber, enzymes, Vitamin C, amino acids, and potassium.
Mint – A touch of minty freshness finishes this drink beautifully and will aid digestion, clear up your skin, and stimulate your senses.
